Asgore Vs. Rando
(Undertale Vs. LISA)
“If a piece of knotted string can unleash the wind, and if a drowned man can awaken, then I believe a broken man can heal.”
-Annie Proulx
Asgore Dreemurr - The guilt-ridden king of the monsters from Undertale
Dustin “Rando” Armstrong - The stuttering shy leader of the Rando Army from LISA
It’s tough being a leader, you must care for and lead hundreds, possibly thousands of people. A leader must adapt to their surroundings and do anything to help guide their people to a better place; and for these two, it may even mean performing acts that they truly, don’t wish to do. Guilt can destroy one’s self, and lead them to darker places. For these two, the actions they performed as rulers burned them from the inside, leaving them scarred. Today, these two pain-filled rulers will go head-to-head on Dioxide’s Duel Blogs, and find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!
Before we begin…
I’d like to give a big thanks to Saul and Fenic for helping me with this blog, they truly helped with the production and it would not have been as easy without them. Also, much of Asgore’s info is taken from Saul’s Asgore Vs. Andrias Blog with consent, so again, a big thanks to Saul for the help. Keep in mind that this is in fact my first real blog, so I apologize if something is wrong or formatted incorrectly.
Another thing, while both fighters do in fact have armies of their own, they will not be included. Asgore is much more of a 1v1 fighter, so their respective armies will not be included as the dynamic works much better without them. Also, this is a given, but this contains spoilers for both Undertale and the Lisa Trilogy, you should play, or at least watch them as they are all phenomenal games.
Background
Asgore
“I so badly want to say, ‘would you like a cup of tea?’ But… you know how it is.”
Asgore Dreemurr, King of the Monsters, has ruled over monsterkind for over a millenia along with his wife, Queen Toriel. However, as a large war broke out between Humans and Monsters, the vastly weaker monsters were defeated, before being sealed away far underground beneath Mount Ebott. After they had lost the war, Asgore and Toriel had a son named Asriel, who they would love with all of their heart. However, not soon after, a human child would fall down a hole on Mount Ebott, landing in the Underground where they would be found, and later adopted by the Dreemurr Family, this human was named Chara.
Asgore and Toriel took great care of Chara, and Asriel became best friends with the human. However, tragedy soon struck, when Chara became ill and soon passed away. Before dying, Chara would tell Asriel that their last wish was to see the Golden Flowers residing in their hometown, and as Chara would die, Asriel would absorb Chara’s Soul. With the absorbed human soul, Asriel crossed the sealing barrier and reached the surface, taking Chara’s body to their hometown as Chara had wished. However, tragedy struck yet again, as with Asriel reaching Chara’s hometown with the body, many humans began attacking Asriel. Asriel would not survive this encounter.
Heartbroken and enraged, Asgore would declare war on the Humans, swearing to kill any humans who fell into the Underground and use their souls to destroy the barrier that kept the monsters underground. Disgusted with this, Toriel would soon leave Asgore, heading to the other end of the Underground where the Ruins were. While the exact events between then and the game aren’t fully explained, we know that six more humans fell into the Underground before Frisk, all of them seemingly being killed by Asgore for their souls. Once the events of Undertale begin, Asgore remains within the castle in New Home for the entire story.
When Frisk does arrive, Asgore nicely greets them, not wishing to kill Frisk, but knowing that he must. When their battle ensues, many different outcomes can happen, but in the outcome where Asgore lives, the True Pacifist Route, the fight between Asgore and Frisk is interrupted by Toriel. Toriel chastises Asgore for his actions, actions that Asgore truly does regret doing. As more and more monsters begin to arrive in support of Frisk, all of it is interrupted by Flowey, who then absorbs the Six Human Souls. After a long battle between Frisk and Flowey, and in turn Asriel, the barrier is broken, allowing the monsters to live upon the surface once more. Asgore deeply apologizes for his horrible actions, feeling terribly guilty for it all. As life goes on, Asgore ends up working as a hedge trimmer for Toriel’s School on the surface, seemingly living a happy life, like many of the monsters he ruled.
Rando
“The often unwanted star of the Armstrong Dojo, Dusty strived his whole life for Brad's approval.”
Rando, real name Dustin, was a man born into Olathe as an orphan, and with no parents, Dustin lived on the streets as a homeless child. Much of Dustin’s time was spent secretly watching a martial arts class that he was deeply interested in; the martial arts class of Brad Armstrong. Dustin would watch Brad’s teachings diligently, wishing to become a martial artist like Brad. One day, his dream would come true, Brad would encounter the young Dustin watching his class, and even though Dustin had no money, Brad allowed Dustin to join his class. As time passed, Dustin would grow close to Brad, ultimately acting as a sort of son to Brad, even taking Brad’s last name, becoming Dustin Armstrong.
However, nothing good can last forever, a saying Dustin has become much too familiar with. One day when entering Brad’s Dojo, Dustin was attacked by one of his fellow students named Bernard. Bernard used a buzzsaw to heavily mutilate Rando’s face, yelling out “This is for Lisa!” as he did it. Soon, Brad would find Dustin in the dojo still awake and covered in blood, and with Dustin telling Brad the story as best he could; telling him what Bernard had yelled out, Brad only coldly left Dustin there in his own blood, feeling he had upset his father, and apologizing that he wasn’t strong enough to fight back.
Years later, after the bright Flash that caused all of the women in the world to disappear, Dustin soon began to rise to power. With his dark cloak, red spikes, and crimson skull mask, Dustin took the name of Rando, and began to build an army to unite the chaotic world of Post-Flash Olathe; ultimately marking the start of the Rando Army. With thousands of men under his control, Rando would begin taking over large portions of Western Olathe to bring order to the wasteland, but again, nothing good can last forever. One day, news had broken out across Olathe that a girl had been found, a revelation that shocked the masses, causing even more chaos to ensue. As war broke out across Olathe with everyone fighting to try and claim the last girl, Rando’s Army began more and more ruthless actions upon others, and even in-fighting between Rando Soldiers; Olathe was falling apart, and so was Rando’s Army.
After many days, the lone girl Buddy Armstrong, adopted daughter of Brad Armstrong had managed to escape to the Rando Lands, the main headquarters of the Rando Army. However, not far behind Buddy was her father, Brad Armstrong; who at this point, was stopping at nothing to get his daughter back. As Brad began to tear through Rando’s men, Rando soon had to fight Brad himself, the man he used to call Dad. In their final battle, Rando and Brad fought almost toe-to-toe; however, Rando was defeated, telling Brad “You really are the best, Master Armstrong. Thank you, for everything.” as he fell unconscious.
Soon after this, Rando would come across Buddy Armstrong who had previously hid away. With Brad having transformed into a Joy Mutant, Buddy was now essentially free. Rando wished to stay with his adopted sister to protect her from the world of chaos that they were in; however, Buddy had different plans. With Buddy’s twisted world view and messiah complex, she was driven to kill all Warlords of Eastern Olathe to claim the throne for herself, and Rando had to help her. Killing many of Olathes Warlords, Rando would hesitantly leave Buddy due to not bearing to kill more innocent people. However, Buddy would later find Rando tied up to a post above a cliff, the work of a man who had been stalking Buddy named Bolo Bugaughtiichi, and unfortunately for Rando, this would mark the end of his life; a unfortunately swift, and depressing end of the leader of the Rando Army, and the death of Brad’s adopted son.
Skill, Experience, and IQ
Asgore
Not much is known about King Asgore’s past thanks to the nature of Undertale being, well, Undertale. Asgore had seemingly taken part in the war that sent the monsters to the Underground in the first place. Not only that, it’s stated that the citizens of the Underground have been trapped for a millennia. It’s well to assume that Asgore has been ruler of the Underground for 1000 years. While it's unknown how much combat experience Asgore truly has, we know he’s trained Undyne thanks to her lines in the true pacifist route. He also fights Frisk in the neutral ending and has killed the six other humans who fell down into the Underground. He’s also never shown any significant intelligence above any of the average monsters of the underground. He also might know about the resets given the words spoken to Frisk, or, lack of words.
Rando
While Rando’s exact age isn’t known, it’s obvious that Rando started his martial arts at a young age and is definitely a master, being the top student in Brad’s Class. The exact time that the story takes place after the Flash also isn’t exactly known, but considering that there are in fact children in the wasteland, we can infer that the Flash occurred around ten to fifteen years ago, which means Rando should roughly be twenty to thirty years old. Rando’s skill was put to the test when he faced Brad Armstrong, and while he did lose to him, he did put up an almost even fight with equal skill to Brad. After this, Rando (with Buddy’s help) was able to kill multiple of Olathe’s Warlords, who are often regarded as the most powerful men in Olathe. As for intelligence, Rando really has no direct intelligence feats, but given that he was easily able to pick up and understand martial arts, as well as his ability to be a great leader, he definitely shows a good amount of intelligence.
Equipment
Asgore
Trident
Asgore has a magical Trident which he can seemingly pull out at will. What might seem like a basic weapon actually holds some secret features. Asgore can interact with the HUD of frisk, stabbing through the Mercy button to prevent Frisk from using it. Asgore can also conjure blue and orange slashes which damage the soul based on your movement. Blue means that you must stop, while orange means you must move. These swipes are random, so usually unpredictable in the combination of colors.
Rando
Red Skull Mask
Rando’s signature Red Skull Mask, with this mask, not only does he hide his mutilated face, it also gives him a great resistance to fire attacks and fire magic. While this mask can be broken with enough force, it is quite tough, and took Brad a lot of attacking to fully destroy it.
Powers and Abilities
Asgore
Boss Monster Physiology
Like standard Monsters in literally all of Undertale, Asgore is made up of magic and not physical matter. It’s stated that they’re made up with Magic like we’re made up of water. Monsters are also capable of interacting with incorporeal beings like the Mad Dummy, who was able to be harmed by his own Magic despite Frisk not being able to even hit the Mad Dummy. This also applies to one's soul, which makes up the essence of one's being within the world of Undertale. Literally every magic attack in Undertale goes to one's soul, Asgore has shown this ability himself in combat. Monsters also live an extremely long time, Gerson and Asgore himself have both been around at least 100+ years.
Pyrokinesis
Asgore, like the rest of his family, possesses the ability to manipulate flames in different ways. He can fireballs of many different sizes and attack in many different ways. He can create large fireballs, a bunch of smaller ones (with a warning beforehand), rings of fire that start to close in, and a random blast of hundreds of fireballs. Asgore can create long streaks of fire that need to be dodged, much more spaced out fire at sudden intervals, larger fireballs using this hand sweep, and a more “escape the circle.” use of his flames. Perhaps his most deadly attack is the AOE of fire he creates.
Afterimage Creation
At the start of Asgore’s battle, he steps to the side as afterimages travel behind him, this is also seen when he slides over to destroy the Mercy Button. Additionally, afterimages of his trident slashes can be seen during his blue and orange trident attacks.
Resistance to Social Influencing
During the Genocide Route, Flowey states that he had tried hundreds of ways to get Asgore to show the Human Souls to him, but Asgore never did. Unless Flowey’s ways were really bad (which they definitely weren’t, as Flowey is a great manipulator), this shows a sort of resistance to social influence by Asgore.
Rando
Superhuman Physical Characteristics
Like many people in the world of LISA, Rando far exceeds the capabilities of normal humans, being touted as one of the strongest men in all of Olathe. Rando should far exceed normal men in LISA, who can do things such as stop fully moving trucks, tank gunfire, tank blasts of TNT, and can survive roughly 15 meter falls with minimal injuries.
Martial Arts
If it wasn’t already obvious enough, Rando is a master of the Martial Arts, specifically Brad Armstrong’s signature style titled “Armstrong Style”. Prominent moves with this style include the three-hit Buster Punches, the explosive Dropkick, and the use of various Fire Blasts.
Pyrokinesis
Just like his adopted father, Rando possesses the ability to manipulate and use fire attacks and fire magic. Rando can weave this magic into many of his attacks such as the Rando Bomb, where he grabs onto and leaps into the air with a target, before smashing them back down into the ground with a fiery geyser. Rando can also simply use his powers to launch large blasts of fire or simply fire balls.
Healing
Using the Rando Rations that he and many of his soldiers carry with them, Rando can greatly heal himself to stay in battle. Keep in mind that Rando only has five of these in possession.
Resistance to Pyrokinesis
When his mask is intact and being worn, all fire attacks and magic will be dulled or weakened, giving him a great resistance to fire attacks and pyrokinesis as a whole. Keep in mind, this is only while he’s wearing his mask, which can be broken.

Weaknesses
Asgore
Asgore has many weaknesses here and there. Monsters themselves will actually get more vulnerable against foes who are A: refuse to fight against their opponent, and B: Are up against a foe stronger than them. While you might think. “Oh! This doesn’t matter in a death battle!” You’d be technically correct, but we have seen Asgore be oneshot by a foe massively more powerful than him in Frisk at level 20.
Rando
Rando’s biggest weakness comes from a traumatic experience from his childhood: his mutilated face. When Rando’s mask is destroyed, his resistance to pyrokinesis is lost, and Rando becomes much more emotionally unstable; causing him to cry quite a lot during battle, which can make it harder for him to hit foes. The revealing of his face may even cause him to start coughing out blood, which can interrupt his flow of battle.
Before the verdicts…
Rage Ironhead’s headbutt feat is a result of Pyrokinesis
You might think this at first, but this clearly isn’t the case. While yes, there are many users of pyrokinesis in the world of LISA, Rage Ironhead clearly isn’t one, all of his fire moves come from his impacts or the speed he’s moving at. To showcase this better, Rage Ironhead already has a very high agility stat compared to many other party members in LISA supporting that he’s a fast person. Not only this, but Rage Ironhead’s “Pyrokinesis'' attacks do not deal Fire Damage, a kind of damage only present with full pyrokinesis attacks like Fire Balls and Fire Blasts, as well as heavy fire or explosive related items like Firebombs or TNT. Also, this definitely isn’t an outlier, as if normal humans in the world of LISA can dodge gunfire from melee range (along with many other superhuman things), it’s not hard to see Rage Ironhead performing such a feat, considering he can become a very strong party member in Brad’s party.
Asgore and the Human Souls
For some reason there’s this argument going around about how the human souls would affect this debate. My question, why? We don’t know what would happen if Asgore absorbed all of the human souls. Let’s say for a hypothetical Asgore would even do this. (He doesn’t even do this during the genocide run) We do not know he would be exactly one-to-one with Flowey’s own power (Espically thanks to Flowey’s own knowledge and own manipulation of the timeline) This really plays off of hypotheticals that have never happened.
Verdict
Stats
Starting out, I want to discuss their strength. Both obviously reach Small Building Level in Attack Potency and Durability, but Asgore has more proof to show he’s stronger. As impressive as Rage Ironhead’s Flaming Headbutt feat is, it pales in comparison to the Knight Knight’s meteor feat, which is calced to 6.4 Tons of force; a Large Building Level feat. Considering Asgore should scale above the Knight Knight’s, Asgore definitely exceeds Rando in terms of strength and durability. As for speed, with average arguments both are relatively similar in speed, both reach around Mach 5 in speed. However, if you are to buy Asgore’s higher end arguments with Vulkin’s Lightning, Asgore is MASSIVELY faster than Rando at Mach 168; however, again this feat is quite debatable. Again, without high-ends Asgore and Rando should be quite similar in speed, but Rando is much slower with Asgore’s high-ends. So overall, Asgore should be stronger and more durable, they should both be roughly equal in speed unless you buy Asgore’s higher end speed arguments in which he’d be massively faster than Rando.
Arsenal and Abilities
This category is pretty cut and dry, Asgore has much better hax from his Durability Negation and Soul Manipulation that come with his Boss Monster Physiology. While Rando does have a great resistance to Asgore’s Pyrokinesis, he still gets outstated and outhaxed; even if Rando was stronger than Asgore, Asgore’s Soul Manipulation would allow him to bypass it. Asgore’s range is already better than Rando with his much larger size, but Asgore’s range is even better with his Trident, which seems to be similar in size to him. All of this is also stacked higher with Asgore’s fast Orange and Blue slashes, which put the odds more so in Asgore’s favor.
Other Factors
For this category, I want to discuss their skill, experience, and intelligence. Starting with skill, Asgore definitely takes this, Asgore seemingly fought front and center in the war between Humans and Monsters and also trained Undyne, one of the Underground’s most skilled warriors. For experience, this also goes to Asgore, he’s lived for at least a millennium and fought in a large war, while Rando is roughly 20 to 30 years old. However, intelligence is actually roughly the same in my opinion, both don’t have significant intelligence feats, but both have shown to be great fighters who can rule over an army, both should be relatively smart.
